Technical Details

1. Stainless steel wire rope

These are normally made of AISI 302/304 or AISI 316. AISI 302/304 offers higher breaking strength. AISI 316 offers better electrolytic corrosion resistance which makes it more suitable for marine applications.

2. The grade of the wire is the minimum breaking strength.

The most common grades used are: 1470 N/mm², 1570N/mm², 1770 N/mm². Other grades are used for some special applications.

3. The core:

Fiber Core (F.C.), usually polypropylene (P.C.), (H.C.) and sisal. Independent Wire Rope Core (IWRC) Wire Strand Core (WSC) IWRC and WSC are sometimes referred to as steel wire core or steel center.

4. Construction:

Expressed in numbers of strands x number of wires. For example: 6 x 25 indicates that the wire rope consists of 6 strands, which in turn have 25 individual wires.

5. Lay:

Right Regular Lay (RRL); Right Lang Lay (RLL); Left Regular Lay (LRL); Left Lang Lay (LLL)
